Analgesic

[This article contains information on medicinal herbalism, read our Medical Disclaimer here.]

Analgesic is an agent the relieves or diminishes pain.

 Synonymous with anodyne.

Analgesics act in various ways, but primarily by lessening the sensitivity of pain receptors in the brain or nervous system.

Analgesics do not remove the sensation of the body, or loss of consciousness, as anesthetics do.

Analgesics relieve short term and long term pain.

Depending on the herb, analgesics can be used internally or topically.
