Botanical name: Rosmarinus officinalis 

Synonymous with R. coronarium  

 

Folk names: Compass weed, dew of the sea, elf leaf, guardrobe, incensier, Libanotis (Greek), polar plant, sea dew.  

 

Family Lamiaceae 

 

 

Botany 

A small evergreen shrub, grows up to 2 meters in height, leaves are highly aromatic.  

Native to the Mediterranean. Grows wild in Spain, France, Corsica, Italy, Sardinia, Tunisia.  

 

 

Essential oils 

Rosemary essential oil is steam distilled from the leaves, flowers and twigs. The oil is pale yellow.
