What are Nervines?
Nervines are agents that strengthens or tones the nerves and nervous system.
They may have a stimulating, relaxing, or tonic/anti-depressive effect.
Other branches of nervines include psychedelics and analgesics.
Nervine Stimulants: These herbs are different from circulatory stimulants, which increase blood flow and dilate blood vessels.
Cola vera
Nervine Relaxants: These herbs are used to relieve stress and tension. These herbs may also have sedative and hypnotic properties.

Lavender (Lavandula augustifolia)
Lemon balm (Melissa officinalis)
Passionflower (Passiflora incarnata)

Nervine Tonic/Anti-depressive: These herbs nourish and restore the nervous system. They are used for nervous debility. Adaptogenic herbs can fall into this property because they also work to restore the nervous system.
