What is anti-catarrhal? 

An agent that reduces the production of mucus made by the body.   

 

Catarrh is inflammation of the mucus membranes. Mucus is produced by the body during an infection to aid in the expulsion of the foreign bacteria or virus.  

 

This property is similar to expectorant and mucolytic.  

 

 

What are they used for? 

Anti-catarrhal herbs are useful for treating sinus and respiratory infections 

 

How do they work? 

Some herbs work by thinning the mucus making it watery and easy to expel. Other reduce the mucus secretions directly.
