From Kitchen Scraps to Gorgeous Hues: The Art of Dyeing Fabric with Avocado Pits

Have you heard of the latest trend in natural dyeing? Avocado pits! I mean, who knew that the same thing that makes guacamole so delicious could also make your fabric look oh-so-lovely in pink? I recently stumbled upon a video of someone dyeing fabric for a dress using avocado pits and was absolutely blown away by the stunning results.

As someone who has only dabbled in indigo hair dye, I’m excited to try out this new DIY project. So, if you're looking for a fun and eco-friendly way to give your old clothes a fresh new look, grab some avocado pits, and let's get dyeing!

To help you get started, I've scoured the internet for the best instructions on how to turn those pits into a gorgeous pink dye. Let's dive in!

Materials:

- Avocado pits (approximately 10-12 pits for 1 pound of fabric)

- Fabric to dye (natural fabrics such as cotton, linen, or silk work best)

- Large pot

- Water

- Strainer

- Gloves (optional)

- Stirring utensil

- Bowl

Instructions:

1. Collect and clean avocado pits. You'll need approximately 10-12 pits for every 1 pound of fabric.

2. Remove the outer layer of the avocado pits using a knife or peeler. You only need the inner brown portion for the dye.

3. Place the avocado pits in a large pot and add enough water to cover them completely.

4. Bring the water to a boil and then reduce the heat to a simmer.

5. Let the avocado pits simmer for about 1-2 hours, stirring occasionally. The longer you let the pits simmer, the darker the dye will become.

6. Turn off the heat and let the mixture cool down to room temperature.

7. Use a strainer to remove the avocado pits from the liquid. You should be left with a pinkish liquid.

8. If you want to use a mordant to help the dye adhere to the fabric, prepare it according to the instructions on the package and add it to the avocado dye liquid.

9. Wet your fabric in water and then add it to the pot with the avocado dye liquid. Make sure the fabric is completely submerged.

10. Bring the dye mixture to a simmer, and let it simmer for about 1 hour, stirring occasionally.

11. Turn off the heat and let the fabric soak in the dye for a few hours or overnight. The longer you let it soak, the darker the color will be.

12. After soaking, remove the fabric from the dye and rinse it thoroughly with cool water until the water runs clear.

13. Hang the fabric to dry in a well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight.

And there you have it! Your fabric should now be dyed with a beautiful peach-pink color from the avocado pits.

I can't wait to see how your avocado-dyed fabric turns out! Don't forget to share your stunning results in the comments below so we can all admire your eco-friendly fashionista skills. Let's inspire each other to get creative with natural dyes and make the world a more colorful and sustainable place!
