The Japanese Star anise is poisonous. Some Chinese star anise products have been contaminated with Japanese star anise. Only purchase Chinese star anise from a reputable source, assured by chemical analysis.


Essential oils steam distilled from the fresh or partly dried fruits  


Therapeutic actions  

Anti-septic: destroys or controls pathogenic bacteria. Used topically.

Anti-bacterial: destroy or inhibit the growth of bacteria. 

Anti-spasmodic: prevents and eases spasms and relieves cramps.

Aromatic:  

Aphrodisiac: increase sexual desire

Carminative: settles the digestive system and the expulsion of gas from the intestines.

Expectorant: expels mucus in the respiratory system

Galactagogue: increases the secretion of milk  

Stimulant: stimulates the physiological functions of the body  

Stomachic: digestive aid and tones the stomach

Consult a qualified midwife or physician before taking during pregnancy. A small amount for flavoring will have little significance, but taking an extract will.
